One of the most consistent findings among supervisors is
effectiveness deals with goal setting and its relationship to productivity. The
two are directly linked. The more attention devoted to goal setting, the higher
the productivity of the group and individuals within the group.
1. Avoid
being to general. The more precise the target, the greater the commitment to
follow through.
2. Can
it be measured in terms of coast, quality, quantity, and timeless. People
prefer concert feedback on how they are doing against a standard of
performance.
3. Goals
should be jointly established rather than imposed. This builds a powerful base
for commitment.
4. Set
realistic goals that provide a challenge and stretch the employee.
5. A
well defined deadline for when the project must be accomplished adds a sense of
urgency.
